YAMS - Young Appalachian Musicians

August 1, 2016

Dear Parents,

For the 3rd year, we will have a Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) program through our school. There will be one session for a total of 20 (twenty) lessons. Ten lessons are prior to Christmas Break, and ten sessions are after Christmas Break. Signing up for the program registers your student for 20 lessons.

In this program our 3rd -5th graders at Dacusville Elementary and our 6th – 8 th graders at Dacusville Middle will be taught to play acoustic instruments (guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin) by local musicians, by ear. We’ll have a 45 minute lesson each week from October to December then from January to March. Right now, we are planning that these classes will be held at Dacusville Middle School one day per week (Monday-Thursday) sometime between the hours of 3:15 - 5:30 DMS. If your child is at Dacusville Elementary he/she will be able to ride the school bus to DMS right after school to take lessons there. A homework center will be offered free of charge if your child has to wait for his/her class to begin. As soon as YAM class is over, however, you’ll need to pick up your child.

The cost of the weekly lesson is based on the lunch status of the child. This year’s rates will be $5/week for Free lunch students, $7/week for Reduced lunch, and $12/week for Full lunch. You may also rent instruments from the YAM program, and rental rates will be: $5/month for Free lunch, $8/month for Reduced lunch, $15/month for Paid lunch.

If you would like to know even more about the YAM Program, please see our web page www.yamupstate.com or our Facebook page YAM (Young Appalachian Musicians).
